Through the fog

Our mast cut through the dark fog which surrounded our ship. The sails having been destroyed by the storm lay somewhere on the surface of the water, presumably miles away from our current location. The crew looked worse for wear after days of tumultuous waves and screaming wind. As lookout I focused my attention on the sea before me and tried to find some way of determining our location. I peered into the fog and saw what appeared to be a miniscule stain on the blanket of mist before my eyes. Could it be land? Could our journey have finally come to an end?
